Log Number: MA-05-10-0018-10
American Precision Museum, founded in 1966 and housed in the 1846 Robbins & Lawrence Armory, a National Historic Landmark and former gun and machine tool factory, today holds the largest collection of historically significant machine tools in the nation. Of the 3,575 artifacts in the object collection, the museum holds title to only 44% of them. This grant will enable the museum to implement the steps outlined in Vermont’s new museum property law to acquire title to those undocumented artifacts for which no valid claimant steps forth. Concurrently, consulting and volunteer experts will review all objects, both those accessioned and undocumented in the collection, and make recommendations to keep, remove, or set aside for further review. A Collections Assistant will be hired to assist with all aspects of the project.
