National Steinbeck Center

In partnership with El Sistema USA/Salinas and the Service Learning Institute at California State University Monterey Bay (CSUMB), the National Steinbeck Center (NSC) will launch “Ninos del Mundo,” an after-school program serving grades four and five. The program, to take place at the Steinbeck Center’s Institute (an offsite cultural center and performance hall), will serve students 190 afternoons a year over the two years of the project. The target audience includes 240 children from East Salinas public schools. Students’ families are the secondary target audience. El Sistema will recruit the students and provide busing; college students from CSUMB will serve as program assistants to help the lead NSC coordinator. The program will engage students in a wide variety of activities in the arts and humanities.
