The Madison Children’s Museum will develop programs to interest a new audience segment: children aged 8 to 12. These efforts align with a newly opened 26,000-square-foot facility designed to deepen the museum’s ability to serve its community. The “Building Big Ideas” program intends to attract and serve this new audience through science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) programs. Activities in this year-long effort will include 1) building community-museum partnerships in informal science; 2) designing, implementing, and evaluating STEM programs for 8- to 12-year-olds in school field trips, after-school programs, and public formats; and 3) developing an effective strategy for making children and their parents aware of these programs. This project will help the museum address its mission by reaching older children and delivering STEM content.
