The Museum of Children’s Art will use its grant to fund its “Afterschool Art at the Library” program. The program will offer once-weekly, two-hour art workshops at five Oakland Public Library sites. The program hopes to serve 250 children annually through the after-school workshops and an additional 600 children through special events throughout the library system during school holidays. Workshops will be organized around monthly themes, which will be determined in collaboration with library staff and tailored to the programming at each library site as well as the cultural communities served by those branches. The curriculum will be explicitly designed to correspond to and enhance student facility in skill areas addressed by the state Visual Arts Content Standards, as well as content standards in language arts, math, science, and social science.
