Mint Museum of Art

The Mint Museum will implement “Memory Train: Celebrating Community Through the Power of Remembrance,” a community-wide participatory project inspired by the art of Charlotte native Romare Bearden. Participants of all ages will share their reflections on video about their life journeys inspired by images of Bearden’s work. Participants can respond and record their reflections by visiting the Mint Museum, attending scheduled community reflection days, or recording on their own using personal cameras, computers, or smart phones. “Memory Train” will encourage, gather, document, and make accessible responses from the diverse Charlotte community. The collected video responses will be combined and edited to create a unique film that will become part of the community record and will be viewed in the museum. “Memory Train” will bring diverse individuals together to share their stories and profoundly impact the museum’s relationship with the community.
