Log Number: MA-04-11-0389-11
The Historic Annapolis Foundation will create an exhibition entitled “Freedom Bound: Runaways of the Chesapeake,” which will inform audiences on slavery, bondage, resistance, and independence. “Freedom Bound” will use recent research on slavery through the perspective of the individual runaway. The data presented on actual runaway slaves will tell stories of empowerment, survival, freedom, and liberty. Once complete, “Freedom Bound” will be a physical and inspiring representation of the research on runaway advertisements from local newspapers encompassing a 150-year period (1727–1864). Stories of individual struggles for freedom will be told through approximately 40 relevant decorative and fine art objects and related archeology materials. Audiences will be able to view and discuss the exhibition at its various traveling venues and through a virtual exhibition and online blog that will be posted on the foundation’s Web site.
