Dayton Art Institute will develop “What Is a Masterpiece: An Interactive Tour of World Art.” The tour will feature a selection of 90 works of art already installed in the museum and spread throughout its galleries of American, European, African, Oceanic, Pre-Columbian, Ancient, and Asian art. Content about each work will be available to visitors via “QR” technology, accessible through a handheld device. The content will include audio and video sources on the broad topic of “masterpiece” and, importantly, each work will have a blog where the visitor can instantly join a conversation with others about the art. Inspired and encouraged by the content available, the primary goal of “What Is a Masterpiece: An Interactive Tour of World Art” is that the visitor will exercise critical thinking in his or her own aesthetic judgments.
