Log Number: MA-04-11-0216-11

The Treehouse Children’s Museum’s project, “The Play’s Thing,” will unite theater arts experiences for families and schools with a unique service-learning opportunity for young teenagers to work with an internationally acclaimed puppeteer to produce three puppet programs for family audiences. Treehouse staff will develop four “ParticPlays” that will involve elementary students attending field trips at the museum. Eighteen youth volunteers will be recruited from schools throughout the area to receive six weeks of special training in order to develop three different puppet shows for public and Head Start children. More than 30,000 children and adults will be directly involved in the project, including 20,000 school children who will perform in a “ParticiPlay.” As a result, participants will develop their own leadership and communications skills and artistic and dramatic talents as they learn skills and techniques in storytelling and puppetry.
