The Children’s Museum of Atlanta will expand its “Connected Learning…Connected Communities” community outreach educational program. The program will involve children ages 0 to 7 in four underserved and economically deprived communities in Atlanta. Specific projects activities will include weekly educational Imaginator visits to participating schools and centers; “Museum-In-A-Box” curriculum trunks; teacher training sessions; art and science workshops for children and families; family group interaction and activities; regular organized free visits to the museum on the Imagine It! Express; play and learn lessons with children during community events such as Countdown to Kindergarten and parental General Educational Development classes, a strategic plan for sustaining the program in Atlanta communities, and a replication plan for use by other museums. One goal is to enable parents to spend increased quality play and learning time with their young children and understand the importance of their role in creating positive parent/child interactions through play.
