Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest

Log Number: MA-04-10-0448-10

The Corporation for Jefferson’s Poplar Forest will launch a landscape project to display ornamental plantings in their Jefferson-era setting in order to allow visitors to understand the relationship Thomas Jefferson sculpted between architecture and landscape. Archaeological excavations will be conducted to locate and restore the geometrically designed tree clumps and oval beds that radiated from the geometry of the octagonal house. This first phase of landscape restoration will begin to illuminate for the public, for the first time, Jefferson’s unique integration of man-made and natural features in his vision for his ideal personal space.
