The Museum of Art, Rhode Island School of Design, will implement an Online Access Project, a two-year phased upgrade of its collection management system. Creation of the system will allow for public access to the museum’s collection of 84,000 works of art and extensive interpretive resources through the Web site for the first time. Initially, the Online Access Project will include 1,000 images and text for works of art in the collection. These represent the very best of the museum’s broad collection, with examples ranging across time from ancient Egypt to the present, representing all media. The increased access to collections will benefit not only students and faculty at Rhode Island School of Design, Brown University, and other regional institutions, but also 16,000 K–12 students and teachers, and 150,000 annual visitors.
