Peabody & Essex Museum

The Peabody Essex Museum will use its grant to support its Multiple Visit Partnership Program (MVPP). MVPP creates meaningful partnerships with primarily low-resource schools—specifically third-, fourth-, and fifth-grade teachers and students in the cities of Salem and Lynn—through sequenced museum visits that take place throughout the academic year and object-based lesson plans that build knowledge identified in the art, social studies, and language arts curriculum. The program fosters twenty-first century skills such as creativity and innovation, communication and collaboration, and visual and basic literacy. At the end of the program, student projects have included essays and poems, drawings and ceramics, multimedia prints and computer-generated art, and video documentaries on aspects of the museum’s collection that show encounters between cultures.
