The Katonah Museum of Art (KMA) will begin “ArteJuntos/ArtTogether,” a two-year multivisit family literacy program designed to introduce low-income Hispanic families to museums. The goals of “ArteJuntos” are to increase literacy, social inclusion, and parenting skills of Hispanic parents. “ArteJuntos” is an intensive collaboration with three partners, two public school districts and one community based organization (CBO). Participants in “ArteJuntos” are parents of young children enrolled in the schools and in a parenting class at the CBO. They will attend nine session programs, which take place off-site and at the museum. Hispanic families are the largest growing population in Westchester; this project will help expand literacy skills and connect families to museums.
