At the Jewish Museum of Maryland (JMM), “Museum on the Move” will disseminate outstanding programs, services, and resources to Jewish and non-Jewish Marylanders in a wider service area, beyond the museum’s base in Baltimore. By retaining an outreach coordinator and leasing a Sprinter van, the museum will be able to bring an array of interpretive programs to students, families, and adults. Programs will include living history presentations, traveling exhibitions, workshops, professional development programs, lectures, and demonstrations that address the needs of the projected audience. The initiative grows directly from the museum’s mission statement, vision statement, and strategic plan; it will serve as a pilot, as they shift institutional resources toward off-site community venues. Regular, thorough evaluation of the program will enable the JMM to make midcourse corrections, to effectively direct resources, and to plan for long-term outreach and community engagement.
