Long Island Children's Museum

The Long Island Children’s Museum will refine, expand, and evaluate its kindergarten readiness program, “Juntos al Kinder/Together to Kindergarten.” Launched in 2006, the program addresses the needs of local immigrant families with limited English proficiency by acclimating children and their parents to the culture of the American classroom and public education system. The museum will refine the program curriculum and develop relationships with members of the Haitian community to learn about their needs. The museum will continue to offer the program to Hispanic/Latino families during the summers of 2011 and 2012, and will test an expansion of the program for a Haitian population in the summer of 2012. The foundation for a model will be developed that can be adapted for the program’s replication and dissemination.
