Wildlife Conservation Society (International Wildlife Park (Bronx Zoo ))

The Wildlife Conservation Society’s Bronx Zoo has developed a well-regarded distance-learning program called “Distance-learning Expeditions” that features live, instructor-led videoconferencing sessions with school classrooms across the U.S. The zoo will use its grant to sustain and enhance this program. The program enables students to “travel” beyond school walls to learn about the earth, the environment, and the tremendous diversity of life on our planet. In addition to live, close-up views of many of the zoo’s most charismatic animals, the sessions include a variety of small-group studies and problem-solving activities. “Distance-learning Expeditions” has been shown through evaluations to be highly effective at engaging students in environmental science learning.
