The Friends of the Chinese American Museum (FCAM) will design and install a brand new exhibition, “(de)Constructing Chinatown.” Multidisciplinary in its approach, the exhibition will feature a curated selection of artwork from three established and emerging artists of diverse backgrounds (James Rojas, Steven Wong, and Phung Huynh) that conceive Chinatown through visual and installation art and incorporate innovative urban planning, rich cultural symbolism, and colorful architectural designs. Set to open in November 2010, the exhibition will also feature a series of artist talks, educational workshops, facilitated tours, and an exhibition brochure. The project seeks to inspire greater community involvement in Los Angeles Chinatown’s urban and cultural development through the imagining and constructing of its future.
