Historical Society of Saginaw County, Inc (Castle Museum)

The Historical Society of Saginaw County will facilitate “History on the Move,” a unique “mobile classroom,” which will teach local history in a modified tractor-trailer. The project addresses the need for substantive local history education in Saginaw County, Michigan, and provides an innovative solution to the lack of time and funding for students to visit museums during the school day. “History on the Move” will feature hands-on discovery-based programs tailored to the Grade Level Content Expectations and Benchmarks of the State of Michigan’s Department of Education in history, geography, economics, science, math, and language. The project’s experienced educators will use historic artifacts and replicas to present relevant local history topics. Parent visitation will be included in the schedule and teachers will be provided follow-up activities and other resources.
