The L.C. Bates Museum’s two-year project, titled “Stimulating an Interest in Science for Rural Second Grade Children,” is designed to reach neighboring rural and mostly low-income Maine children and their families with opportunities for science education. Each year the project will bring a series of twelve museum natural history programs to thirty-seven classes in ten schools. The project will include sixteen “wild” family field trips, measurable participant evaluation, TV programs, and five classroom exploration boxes. The programs’ content will meet the Maine Science Learning Results Standards and will support school learning for over 1,300 children and their families.
