The Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge will construct “Kids Go Green! Environmental Learning Center and Garden.” The garden will provide an interactive outdoor space for children and families to experience and study nature, organic gardening, and environmental stewardship and encourage healthy outdoor activities. It will include native plants, vegetable gardens, insect gardens, fruit trees, an outdoor classroom, an eco-friendly arts and crafts area, and many other interactive garden components. Curriculum for school tours, in-house classes, camps, and after-school programming will be offered throughout the two-year project, and it will include an outreach program for fourth graders in five school systems—over 4,000 students. The garden will bring exciting educational activities to children and families, creating a lasting resource in the East Tennessee region.
