Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum
Log Number: MA-04-10-0119-10
The Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum will expand and enrich in-house and outreach educational programming. Mr. Herschell created the “Kiddieland” concept in amusement parks and his factory was the world’s largest producer of rides from 1883 to 1959. The museum’s mission is to preserve the historic building while interpreting its impact on family recreation in the United States. Curriculum coordinators and classroom teachers will assist the museum in strengthening coordination between museum educational programming and local schools and aligning content and activities with state education standards. Ideally, the project will lead to increased classroom visits by the Museum Educator, as well as class visits to the museum. The Children’s Gallery will offer opportunities for independent learning through new “Learning Centers,” which will be available whenever the museum is open. In addition, week-long “Learning Camps” will be offered each year.
