Treehouse Children’s Museum will use its grant to fund the “Global SPYs at Treehouse” project. This project unites a leadership program for youth volunteers (ages twelve to fifteen) with a celebration of the stories, art, and artifacts from two countries—Mexico and Mongolia—which have important ties to the Ogden, Utah, community. Eighteen “Special Participating Youth,” or SPYs, will be recruited through an application and interview process from neighborhoods throughout the area. As SPYs, their mission will be to create programs for families that focus on the stories and traditional arts of the two countries and to curate two exhibitions of loaned and donated objects and artifacts. They will also assist in the development of two permanent storytelling kiosks where families will share children’s folk and fairy tales from Mexico and Mongolia.
