South Florida Community College (Museum of Florida Art and Culture)

The South Florida Community College Museum of Florida Art and Culture (MOFAC) will develop an exhibit, titled “Nine Natives: Wildflower Wayside Shrine,” to highlight nine endangered or endemic (native) indigenous plant species from the Lake Wales Ridge region. The exhibit will feature a walking trail with shrine boxes to mark the natural habitat of each species and an indoor exhibit with prints, photographs, and interpretive text panels outlining the history and ecology of the Lake Wales Ridge region. Through appreciation of the art it has inspired, the exhibit will increase awareness of the many endangered species threatened by the rapidly disappearing scrub habitat of central Florida and highlight the fragile beauty of one of the most unique ecosystems in North America.
