Jane Addams Hull-House Museum will begin an initiative called “Hungry for Peace.” The program will consist of three public programs: “Conversations on Peace and Justice” (a monthly lecture series promoting the town hall style of discussion and debate), “Re-Thinking Soup” (weekly programs which provide homemade soup and bread along with a lecture/discussion), and the “Hull-House Urban Farm” (a half-acre farm, which provides produce for the soups for “Re-Thinking Soup” and teaches local urban children about nutrition and issues of food access). These programs build on Hull-House’s long history of working for food justice and food security and educating communities about the problem of hunger and help promote the museum as a public historical site as well as a center for community engagement.
