The California Indian Museum and Cultural Center (CIMCC) will begin “California Indigenous,” a twelve-month project to plan an interactive, Geographic Information Service (GIS)–based map exhibit linking geographic and descriptive information on California Indian communities. Designed for a K–12 audience, the project will produce an interpretive plan for the mapping exhibit, which will communicate multiple Native points of view on critical historical and contemporary issues in California Indian Country. CIMCC’s Native youth service learning group will be involved in the planning, and an online social forum site will be created to facilitate public input and review with tribal and educational stakeholders. The National Indian Justice Center (NIJC) of Santa Rosa, California, a training and technical assistance provider for Native American governments, organizations, and personnel nationwide, will partner with CIMCC as a technical assistance provider.
