Butler Institute of American Art

The Butler Institute of American Art will begin a project entitled “Good Neighbors: The Youngstown City School District and the Butler Institute of American Art.” The program introduces students to basic concepts of art and then builds on those concepts through six outreach programs: four in the classroom and two at the museum. The program is designed to enhance the reading, writing, communication, and critical thinking skills necessary for success in other areas of study. The project provides a significant, comprehensive investment in arts education in the local school district as students learn to become independent viewers through group discussions, which involve critical thinking and creative skills that range from concrete thought patterns to abstract ideas.
