The Arkansas Museum of Science and History will create two new exhibit experiences: “Tornado Alley Object Theater” and “Extreme Weather Channel.” Together the exhibits educate visitors on the causes, potential effects, and safety measures of tornados—an event familiar to the region. “Tornado Valley” will allow visitors to step inside a recreated storm cellar to experience the sights and sounds of the tornado that destroyed Judsonia, Arkansas, and killed forty-four people, in 1952. A ten-minute object theater program will bring to life Arkansas’ most extreme weather through radio broadcasts, sound and visual effects, oral histories, and video footage. Exhibit panels throughout the theater document the causes of tornadoes and teach safety measures. “Extreme Weather Channel” educates visitors about meteorology through interactive green-screen technology where visitors become part of the news.
