Log Number: MA-02-04-0626-04
Purpose: Supporting Lifelong Learning The Fabric Workshop and Museum (FWM) will design and implement a pilot educational initiative-the FWM Multimedia Education Lab-that will enhance its capacity as a broadly available resource for lifelong learning. This project reflects the FWM's fundamental educational belief and strategy-that experiencing a work of art as it comes into being can provide understanding and insight into the purpose, meaning, and significance of contemporary art. The project will capitalize on the FWM's singular nature as both a museum and a workshop, and draw from its full collection of more than 5,500 experimental works in a variety of media to illuminate the creative process. In this project, the FWM will expand its Web site by adding collections object pages, creative process pages, and short video clips of artists talking about their artwork. A new online curriculum area of the Web site will provide students and teachers with interpretive tools and activities related to the FWM's collection and its artist-in residence program. Cuban-born artist Jorge Pardo will design and fabricate the Multimedia Education Lab, which will house three computer stations and a larger area with a 50-inch plasma screen for group presentations.
