Mission Inn
Log Number: MA-02-04-0486-04
Purpose: Serving as Centers of Community Engagement The Mission Inn Foundation and Museum Web site project integrates the object-based learning implemented through the Family Voices educational program the foundation presents each year and the history and content of the Mission Inn collections. The primary audience will be students in grades 3 through 12. The Web site will feature learning modules based on artifacts from the Mission Inn collections. Each module will trace the history of the object(s), relate it to the history of the site, list appropriate bibliographic information, and provide links to related resources. For example, the "California Missions" module will show examples of the Henry Chapman Ford paintings, give a short biography of the artist, explain the usefulness of the paintings to historians and archaeologists, and provide links to other California mission sites. Lesson plans matched to the California Education Framework will be available for teachers and home schoolers. The project uses the California State Archives Web site as a model. The educational component of this Hands-on History Web site will be pilot tested and evaluated in an elementary, middle, and high school in the Riverside area before it is made available to the general public.
