Purpose: Sustaining Cultural Heritage Pennsbury Manor will integrate visitor education sitewide through a comprehensive interpretive plan that extends the themes and stories of Pennsbury's recently completed orientation exhibit plan outward to address the various ways visitors can experience the site: (a) within historic structures; (b) in Pennsbury's outdoor environment and in educational environments; (c) onsite; and (d) online. The project goals are to (1) achieve integrated sitewide interpretation via a holistic approach to planning and a "layered" interpretive approach to ensure access for a wide range of audiences; (2) continue the audience-centered planning process begun with the orientation exhibit plan; (3) include volunteers and advisory groups in ways that will link Pennsbury to the needs and interests of the community; (4) establish a foundation for ongoing program expansion; and (5) promote the initial programs as part of the extended grand opening publicity for the new Visitor Center. While this is a comprehensive undertaking, it has been preceded and prepared for by the exhibit planning process and is the culmination of a multiyear planning process. The plan also includes initial implementation. Additional ongoing implementation will be achieved without relying on separate implementation funding.
