The Library and Information Service Program of the Puerto Rico Department of Education will use funds under the American Rescue Plan Act to help communities respond directly and immediately to the pandemic, as well as to related economic and community needs through equitable approaches in digital inclusion and library services. They will continue to support the goals of their Five-Year Plan for FY 2018-2022. In Puerto Rico, specific goals address 1) providing virtual library services to Puerto Rico residents of all ages, to support needs such as academic performance, lifelong learning, workforce development, and digital literacy skills; 2) providing library programs and services to Puerto Ricans of diverse geographic, cultural, socioeconomic backgrounds, including senior citizens, persons with disabilities and to individuals with limited literacy and information skills; and 3) providing training and professional development to enhance the skills of the current library workforce and leadership.
