Alele Museum and Public Library

Log Number: LS-01-16-0061-16

Alele Museum, Public Library and National Archives, the designated State Library Administrative Agency for the Republic of the Marshall Islands, will use grant funds to support an ongoing library computer training program, as well as the digitization of important cultural heritage materials. Older adults are a target audience of the computer training, and Alele has made recent efforts to reach women through classes designated just for them. Grant funds will continue to support computer literacy trainers for this program as well as an Internet connection. The project will also begin digitizing over 600 videotapes from the years when Alele was producing a weekly television program. This unique collection captured important cultural events for the Republic of the Marshall Islands and needs to be preserved for future generations. Grant funds will also support staff participation in the Pacific Islands Association of Libraries, Archives, and Museums (PIALA) conference.
