The Division of Libraries, Archives and Museums of the Virgin Islands Department of Planning and Natural Resources will use funds to support the goals of their Five-Year Plan for FY 2013-2017, which reflect the purposes and priorities of the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA). In the U.S. Virgin Islands, specific goals address 1) expanding on the scope of the Virgin Islands Automated Library System (VIALS); 2) identifying and establishing quantitative and qualitative data gathering protocols, outcome measurement strategies and reporting criteria for monitoring, evaluating and improving public library services, programs and projects; 3) improving the connectivity and technology supporting VIALS by leveraging the impact of Virgin Islands Broadband Initiative and the E-Rate program; 4) enabling lifelong learning for residents of the Virgin Islands by enhancing and expanding the Virgin Islands Collections; and 5) enhancing awareness of library programs, services, needs and capabilities, and fostering community participation and collaboration with the Virgin Islands Public Libraries.
