University of Texas at Austin, School of Information will explore the place of libraries in meeting the needs of the 21.8 million veterans within the United States and identify useful cases that can serve as national models. The university will partner with the nonprofit Songwriting with Soldiers to develop an innovative approach to assisting veterans in exploring, describing, and sharing their veteran experiences with professional songwriters through supportive weekend retreats. This effort will address the unmet needs of veterans, especially in helping this population through its separation from the military and the impact of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
