North Dakota State Historical Society will collaborate with the North Dakota Library Association, the Plains Art Museum, the South Dakota State Historical Society, the Association of South Dakota Museums, and the South Dakota State Library to disseminate best practices of collections care throughout the two states. The Dakota Collections Care Initiative will deliver a series of regional training opportunities and problem-solving workshops and facilitate the development of disaster plans and disaster-response skills. The project will strengthen the informal networks that were begun during each state’s planning efforts by establishing a mutual-aid network. The effort will result in an educated and informed core of collections-care staff and volunteers across the library, museum, historical society, and archive fields who will be better prepared to provide good stewardship for the collections entrusted to their care and to assist neighboring institutions in time of need.
