The California Preservation Program (a statewide preservation program administered by the Peninsula Library System), in partnership with the California Association ofMuseums, California State Library, California State Parks, and Historic Monterey, will undertake a one-year statewide planning project to create a shared vision for preservation among heritage institutions in California including 1300 museums, 5000 libraries and archives, 125 historical societies and over 500 state park facilities. This survey will be used to develop a statewide implementation plan to achieve the four recommendations of the Heritage Health Index (HHI). A project work group will plan and conduct regional meetings of heritage organizations to discuss preservation needs and requirements for a statewide program, draft a statewide implementation plan to address the recommendations of the HHI, incorporate feedback from the heritage community in a revised plan, and assess its attractiveness for funding among California funding agencies.
