Broome-Tioga BOCES Library Media Services' partnership with Roberson Museum and 12 regional school districts will meet the character education needs curriculum while enhancing standards-based approaches to middle school social studies, literacy, fine arts, and technology integration. Partners will develop and share a middle school character education curriculum grounded in the region's culture and history; expand learning experiences through use of community resources and technological tools; strengthen curriculum collaboration between area teachers and library/media professionals; increase student commitment to tolerance, acceptance, and respect through participatory learning experiences; and develop a cadre of educational professionals skilled in the integration of character education into core curriculum content areas. Using the New York State Voices & Visions curriculum as a template, a team of classroom teachers, consultants, museum professionals, and library media specialists will shape the focus for older children, integrating core curricular instruction through strategies such as library-based mini-exhibits, performances, Web-quests, museum visits, and reflective interpretations to create a national model for a middle school character education curriculum.
