Plymouth Ancestors, a partnership between the New England Historic Genealogical Society (NEHGS) and the Plimoth Plantation, will offer learners personal experiences of the American past through online services, teaching materials, an annual newsletter, and advanced information technology that deepens the experience of visiting history museums. Learners participate in historical investigation by using basic tools for introductory-level genealogical work. NEHGS and the Plimoth Plantation will place three touch-screen computer kiosks on the grounds of Plimoth Plantation. They will offer museum visitors brief biographies of all colonists arriving in Plymouth between 1620 and 1633; artist renderings of Plymouth Colony and the Wampanoag Homeland for the period 1603 through 1633; an introduction to genealogy for young visitors; navigational and historical information to acclimate visitors to museum grounds; an introduction to research resources available online and on site at NEHGS; and an opportunity to subscribe to the Plymouth Ancestors newsletter. The project will also develop free classroom curriculum materials and links from the Plymouth Ancestors Web site to NEHGS resources.
