The University of Washington Information School will research how tabletop role-playing games (TTRPG) can enhance understanding and support for youth (ages 10-15) digital civic engagement needs. The project aims to employ co-design methodologies to create a flexible TTRPG centered on digital civic engagement and socioemotional learning; develop accompanying resources for youth and libraries; and create a co-designed curriculum and process that allows librarians to create their own digital civic engagement explorations and activities. The project will enhance library staff understanding and support for youth and democratic digital learning in libraries. Libraries across the country will be able to utilize the resulting curriculum to create meaningful engagement for youth through programmatic design.
