Detroit Public Television

Through a Cooperative Agreement with the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the Detroit Educational Television Foundation (aka Detroit Public Television, DPTV) will produce, distribute, and market, a three-part digital series titled "Visions of America: All Stories, All People, All Places." The purpose will be to explore some of the lesser-known places, people, and stories that contribute to the America in which we live today, and as the 250th anniversary of our Declaration of Independence approaches. Anniversary countdown conversations will focus on three proposed sites: the Freedom Tower (or Torre de la Libertad) in Miami, FL; the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City, MO; and the Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience in Seattle, WA. In addition to the three-part series, project activities include the production of three short promotional videos; expanding dissemination of the program content to PBS stations, libraries, and museums; developing resource kits and lesson plans to encourage programmatic use of the series by libraries, museums and classrooms; developing and implementing a media strategy to promote the series nationwide; and conducting satisfaction surveys with museum and library practitioners to measure the success of the series and collateral materials. Upon completion of the project, citizens will be more informed about the people, places and histories that make up the fabric of America. Audiences will have an opportunity to engage in civil discourse with other community members, in person and virtually, to promote awareness and better understanding of our differences. The goal is to create assets that will have long-lasting impact on society, through wide dissemination and free access to program content.

Amendment 2023: $281,685 in additional funds were awarded in 2023 to help fund the creation of additional multimedia content and enhancements in preparation for American 250 celebrations.
