The Center for Digital Scholarship and Curation at Washington State University (WSU) will develop a system sustainability model and expand the features of the Mukurtu platform to best meet the long-term needs of indigenous communities. The project will expand support and training services; strengthen the platform's technical stability, financial security, and longevity; strengthen the community network; and provide new functionality that supports the needs expressed by Tribal nations. The technical capabilities of Mukurtu along with the training in digital stewardship, provides a pathway for digital return, repatriation, and indigenous sovereignty. An advisory board comprised of Native American nations, non-Native repositories and technical specialists from the field will provide input on technical development and offer specific input on community engagement.
