Note: (a) denotes an amendment made outside of the original awardHeritage Preservation will use this grant for its new Program for Risk Evaluation and Planning (PREP) to help prepare museums and historical societies for natural and manmade disasters. Museums in Texas, Ohio, and Mississippi have been selected to participate in this pilot program. Teams of two professionals, a conservation expert and an emergency preparedness expert will make visits to 15 selected museums in the pilot states. PREP focuses on identifying risks to help institutions prepare for emergencies. The results will be reflected in the creation of guidelines for first responders and local emergency managers. The project will also investigate current disaster plan resources and track what activities the participating museums were able to accomplish after the site visits.
