Audubon Commission (Audubon Zoological Garden)

Log Number: LG-21-04-0110-04

The Audubon Zoological Garden will create a partnership with Community Science Workshop/My House, Longue Vue House and Garden, Parkway Partners, Ogden Museum of Southern Art, Audubon Aquarium of the Americas, and Audubon Insectarium. The zoo and its partners will develop a comprehensive early childhood science education program that will provide direct instruction to children ages three to five, professional development for child care providers, and opportunities for family involvement in science classes. Project activities will include Zoo School classes and outreach visits that use a science learning curriculum to support language and literacy development. Early childhood instructors will attend a summer workshop and receive year-long support that encourages inquiry learning and the idea of the teacher as a "co-explorer." Families will participate in Zooper Kids classes and activities to extend science learning using everyday activities in the home. The zoo anticipates reaching 10,500 New Orleans-area preschoolers, as well as their families and educators.
