Log Number: LG-21-02-0213-02
The New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science in collaboration with the New Mexico Mathematics, an engineering, Science Achievement organization, will work with 15 predominantly Hispanic and Native American communities throughout the state. Involving middle and high school students and teachers, the groups will train teachers and engage students in hands-on, research-based ecological studies in their local area. Through this process, the students will develop scientific inquiry, observation and critical thinking skills, be exposed to careers in the natural sciences, and have a better understanding of ecosystems and the interconnectedness of all living things. The teachers will gain methods to integrate long-term ecological research into the curriculum, and relate them to state and national standards for science and math.
