Brookfield Zoo

The Chicago Zoo in partnership with the Chicago Public School System will involve students in special education in a program called "Every Student is a Scientist: Using Technology to Foster Inclusive Learning". The program will involve 3,600 public school students with disabilities working in teams of classmates to develop, test, and finalize revisions of 4 of the existing zoo curriculum units for use with wireless technology. The projects goals are threefold: to use wireless technology to make inquiry-based learning opportunities more accessible to students with physical, visual, and auditory disabilities; to support the state Board of Education's Least Restrictive Environment policy which requires that, as appropriate, students with disabilities are educated with students who are not disabled; and to create a model of re-purposing education program content for use with wireless technology.
