The University of Rhode Island’s Graduate School of Library and Information Studies (GSLIS), the Providence Children’s Film Festival, and the Rhode Island Office of Library and Information Services (OLIS) will partner in “Media Smart Libraries” to develop the digital and media literacy of children, teens, and families. The project includes public programming events that emphasize the use of film and media texts as well as digital media tools and technologies to promote expanded literacy; continuing education workshops for librarians and educators; a revised library and information science curriculum for school and public librarians; and an online resource hub. The work of the partners will result in more awareness of the importance of digital and media literacy and the role of libraries in supporting essential skills.
