The University of Michigan Library will conduct a fifteen-month project for the Copyright Review Management System (CRMS), building on previous IMLS-supported work in copyright determinations. The project team will continue copyright determination work for books from the UK, Canada, and Australia (having completed reviews for United States candidates) and expand reviews to non-English language works with a focus on Spanish-language. Drawing on CRMS, the team will also develop and refine a CRMS toolkit to help libraries anywhere in the world to replicate the copyright review processes. In addition, the project will work with HathiTrust and its community of partners to sustain the copyright determination process. In this way, CRMS contributes to meaningful access and can help libraries as they seek to safeguard the public domain within the United States and abroad.
