The Texas Tides Digital Learning Consortium (Texas Tides) will help eastern Texas build successful learning communities for public schools, colleges, universities, and memory institutions and their patrons. It will increase access for educators, students, and other researchers to primary resources related to east Texas, with emphasis on history, science, and multicultural resources. The initial platform, developed during Phase I of the project using state grant funds, features a Web site with lesson plans for fourth and seventh grade Texas history teachers and students with more than 10,000 digitized primary resources and a fully searchable database of encoded archival description finding aids. This project will also enable Texas Tides to expand its services by providing Spanish-language translations of Web site text, rare and educational materials, lesson plans and activities for bilingual classrooms. Texas Tides demonstrates how regional projects can integrate resources with larger state or national projects through compliance with current imaging and metadata standards.
