Digital Public Library of America (DPLA)
Log Number: LG-00-14-0179-14
The Digital Public Library of America will extend its national digital platform through a major expansion of its Service Hubs network. The goal is to at least double the number of DPLA Service Hubs during the period of this grant, and to use the Institute of Museum and Library Services’ support to spur a multiplier effect from other funders which will lead to a “completion of the map”—that is, an onramp to the DPLA available to all institutions in every state in the union. This project will have three components: 1) the DPLA Content Team will pursue a more rigorous and widespread engagement with potential Service Hubs across the country, which will lead to the creation of a new and much larger slate of these Hubs; 2) DPLA will implement a new ingestion process across the network to bring new items into DPLA from Service Hubs in a more routine and efficient basis; and 3) DPLA will establish a better, shareable technology infrastructure for the fundamental pieces of the Service Hubs, including managing their own instate ingest process, metadata storage, and maintenance.
