The Digital Public Library of America (DPLA), based at the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University, will partner with the Mountain West Digital Library and other collaborators to launch a Digital Hubs Pilot Program. The program will help fund a network of service hubs run by selected statewide digital library programs and “content hubs” consisting of large content repositories. These hubs collectively will form the foundations of an anticipated DPLA national network and will permit DPLA and participating sites to test and refine a model to help guide future expansion. Content hubs will contribute their data directly to DPLA via specialized agreements, and service hubs in five to seven states will offer services such as digitization, customized metadata consulting, repository and data aggregation services, and community programming.
